Dot Marc Jacobs Fragrance Unveiled

It’s press day! The Pursuitist was invited to the official unveiling of the Dot Marc Jacobs Fragrance. Marc Jacobs and WWD’s Bridget Foley were on hand at the showroom for the premiere of the new fragrance Dot. The fresh perfume continues the cheerful game of petals decorated by modern and characteristic falcons of the Jacobs collection. Polka dots embellish red petals and a ball on the cap, which looks like ladybug in the heart of a flower. From the press day event, here’s some highlights from Marc on the new Fragrance:

“Dots are a timeless pattern, a charm, and an eternal energy I’ve always loved,” Marc said. “It’s the idea of something exhuberant, eclectic, sophisticated…”

Marc also commended on photographer Juergen Teller, who shot the campaign (below): “We’ve worked together over the years & he captures a spirit in a very raw way.”

Linda Evangelista and Francois-Henri Pinault Reach Agreement

In the midst of a trial that brought tales of the high life and high fashion to family court, supermodel Linda Evangelista and a billionaire French businessman have reached an agreement to end their child support fight, their lawyers said Monday.

Evangelista, Francois-Henri Pinault and their attorneys were mum about the details, which they planned to give to a magistrate on Tuesday.

“Everybody is very glad that it’s over,” Pinault lawyer David Aronson said.
The settlement came in the midst of a trial over how much, if anything, Pinault should pay toward the care of their 5-year-old son. Pinault is the CEO of a company that owns Gucci, Yves St. Laurent and other top-flight fashion lines; he’s now married to actress Salma Hayek.

Both Pinault and Evangelista had testified at the trial, answering questions that delved into her career, his high-flying finances and his limited relationship with the boy. Evangelista had been due to continue testifying Monday.

The two sides negotiated all weekend and into Monday morning, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private talks.

In legal papers, Evangelista had said she was spending $46,000 a month on armed bodyguards, a 24-hour-a-day nanny and other expenses for the boy, Augustin, nicknamed Augie. He was born in 2006 after a four-month relationship; Pinault said he and Evangelista spent only about seven days together in all.

Evangelista’s lawyer said she willingly paid all the child’s expenses at first, but she now needs some help. While Evangelista — who once quipped that supermodels “don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day” — testified that she still can command about $100,000 to walk a runway, attorney William Beslow said her roughly $1.8 million-a-year income sank last year because a major contract with L’Oreal ended.

“Ms. Evangelista is not looking to piggyback the lifestyle of Mr. Pinault,” Beslow said in an opening statement last week. He said she wasn’t asking for any particular amount.

As part of the family behind luxury-brands conglomerate PPR, Pinault makes about $4 million a year, and Forbes estimates his family’s net worth at $13 billion.

He wears a $100,000 watch, dropped about $52,000 on a 12-day vacation to Bora Bora and bought himself about $62,000 in clothes in a single year, according to his testimony.

Pinault, who has a 4-year-old daughter with Hayek and two other children from a previous marriage, legally recognized Augie as his son in 2007. Pinault said Evangelista asked for what he considered an unreasonable amount of child support, he countered with another offer, and he didn’t get a response for years. She went to court in 2010.

“We are not going to claim that he cannot pay a fair and reasonable child support,” Aronson said in an opening statement. But $46,000 a month, he said, would be “just ridiculous.”

That would indeed be high, even for New York, though there have been some other big-money child support cases here. Rap impresario Sean “Diddy” Combs was ordered in 2005 to pay about $19,000 a month in support, and Revlon Inc.

Chairman Ronald Perelman was ordered in 1999 to pay more than $12,000 a month.

Nicholas Kirkwood’s NYC Meatpacking District Boutique

After its recent opening in Mayfair London, celebrity luxury shoemaker Nicholas Kirkwood inaugurated this week its boutique in New York’s hip Meatpacking District, precisely at 830, Washington Street. The boutique covers 140 sqm and follows the creative design concept of the flagship store in Mayfair, London.

The store stocks the brand’s complete collection, as well as collaborations with Prabal Gurung, Rodarte, and the Keith Haring Foundation. Kirkwood explained to WWD that he decided to take all those shoes to Meatpacking because he couldn’t find a street he liked in Soho, and uptown spaces were just too small. The store is designed to emphasize space: “I like the idea of doing something else that you can kind of walk around and explore it,” Nicholas Kirkwood said. “It kind of has a gallery-esque feeling, without being quite as cold as a gallery.”

“The brand sought an exclusive location similar to its London boutique and found this in the Meatpacking District, where there is a growing co-tenancy of designer labels including Jeffery’s, Intermix, Zac Posen, Scoop, Ports 1961, Christian Louboutin, Maison Martin Margiela, among others,” said RKF Vice President Joshua Strauss. “The new boutique at 807 Washington features exposed brick walls and a wrap-around window looking onto a private courtyard and will provide the perfect setting for its first U.S. location.”

The designer footwear boutique is conveniently located adjacent to The High Line above-ground park and steps from the proposed Whitney Museum of Art, The Standard Hotel, SoHo House, and The Gansevoort Hotel, as well as a unique blend of premier hotel destinations, top restaurants and high-profile designer outposts.

Li Bing Bing For Gucci

Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini marked her return to China with the launch of a new advertising campaign featuring Chinese star Li Bing Bing and two other exclusive events.

At the historic Wai Tan Yuan in Shanghai, Giannini hosted a cocktail in honour of Li Bing Bing where the new advertising campaign starring the Chinese actress was unveiled.

The 39-year-old actress is one of the biggest stars in the Chinese film industry. Born in Feb 1973, Li Bing Bing pursued her interest in acting after her graduation and joined the Shanghai Drama Institute in 1993.

Her film debut was Zhang Yuan’s Seventeen Years (1999), which won her the best actress award in the 1999 Singapore Film Festival. In 2001, she starred in the television series Young Justice Bao, which propelled her to become one of the most famous actresses in China. That year she was awarded the title of one of the “Top Ten Best TV actors/actresses in China”.

“The fashion world in China is still very young and developing but with the help of these large brands such as Gucci coming in, it is influencing a lot of creativity that is here. I trust there will be influential Chinese designers in the future,” Li told the Telegraph.

Dedicated to the house’s handbags, jewellery and watches, the new Gucci campaign features both classic accessories from Gucci’s tradition as well as new styles destined to become timeless pieces.

Following the unveiling of the campaign, Gucci hosted Giannini’s first-ever fashion show in China at the Wai Tan Yuan. At the show, Giannini presented her critically acclaimed fall/winter 2012-2013 collection to 600 specially invited guests with celebrity attendees including Hilary Swank, Lapo Elkann, Bryan Ferry, Li Bing Bing, Yang Mi, Huo Si Yan, Chen Kun, Feng Shao Feng, Peng Yu Yan, and Wu Zun.

This was followed by a private party on the Rock Bund, the exclusive Gucci club which spans three floors and hosts distinctive themes within each lounge. Up to 800 guests entered the three-floor lounge, housed in a former bank in the up-and-coming Rockbund neighbourhood.

Visitors had the opportunity to view a display of Gucci Première evening gowns from the house’s Florentine archive, including the couture dress worn by Hillary Swank at the 2011 Oscars ceremony.
