Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung at Burberry Show, London

Actors, models, musicians, fashionistas – the front row of the London Fashion Week – never looked more attractive than during the 2012 Burberry Autumn/Winter show. From supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to TV presenter Alexa Chung and Vogue editor, Anna Wintour; the Burberry fashion show was certainly the place to be to find out the latest in celebrity trends.

Other A-listers present at the event includes Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor, Birdsong actor Eddie Redmayne, British boxer Amir Khan, Kate Bosworth and many others.

The womenswear collection presented by the British luxury brand was all about classic English tailoring. Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey mentioned he created the line merging both city style as well as country living. Hence, there were lots of tweed caps, riding jackets, trench coats and velvet quilting.

The Daily Mail reported that Bridle leather straps, shearling parkas and quilting were evocative of the horse-riding country lifestyle of the English upper class, while cute owl drawings and appliques on some of the collection’s T-shirts and sweaters, as well as gold metal fox belt buckles, were a fun and quirky take on the “country” theme.

Shades that were mainly prevalent at the show include rich autumnal colours along with hues of burgundy, mustard and forest green.

Salma Hayek at Alexander McQueen, London

Fashion house Alexander McQueen on Monday came up with its new autumn/winter collection for its McQ label at the London fashion week, two years after its founder’s suicide.

Models clad in belted trench coats with black furry neck mufflers, military great coats, leather belts, black watch tartans, thigh high laced boots and skirts covered with embroidered flowers walked the ramp on the fourth day of the weeklong fashion extravaganza held at the Old Sorting Office Building, central London.

When American supermodel Kristen McMenamy took to the stage, leaves drifted onto her and she found a white rope at her feet. She pulled the rope and the backdrop changed into a winter forest as if magic.

Actress Salma Hayek, who appeared at the show, looked stunning in a tiger print costume, with a black belt attached to her waist. Adding to it, she wore a pair of tights and black patent heels.

She came with her husband Francois-Henri Pinault, head of luxury fashion conglomerate PPR.

“The show was truly sensational – really, really amazing – not at all what I was expecting. The clothes were already unforgettable and extraordinary,” the Mail Online quoted her as saying.

Hayek also praised Alexander Mcqueen’s creative director, Sarah Burton, saying that she had set the bar really high.

“Sarah Burton set the bar really high – it makes me nervous it is so good. What is she going to do for McQueen now? She said.

The show was a success and Sarah Burton was greeted with applause when she appeared on stage. She said: “This was about a love of McQueen and everything we do,” she said.

It was first show for the fashion house after the death of its founder, Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide in 2010.

Monica Bellucci’s Dolce & Gabbana Lipstick

Monica Bellucci has teamed up with Dolce & Gabbana for a limited edition lipstick line designed to reflect a woman’s “state of mind”. After the announcement of Kate Winslet’s charity makeup line for French beauty giant Lancôme last year, Italian star Bellucci is the latest actress to venture into the realm.

Called the Monica Lipstick Collection, the range will comprise six shades costing $32 each and is scheduled to hit stores May 12.

“The idea for the collection was to create different shades, different colours depending on your mood of the day, your state of mind,” the actress told WWD February 17.

“I love all shades in the collection and feel drawn to the different colours, depending on how I feel.”

“We love Monica and have worked with her many times over the past 20 years. Her beauty is timeless. She expresses the Dolce & Gabbana woman perfectly,” said Domenico Dolce.

Stefano Gabbana added: “She is ravishing – a true Italian icon.”

The advertising campaign for the Monica Lipstick Collection was captured by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, known for their work with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Missoni and Giorgio Armani. Evoking classic Italian cinema, it is set to run in publications across Italy, America, the UK, Russia and the Middle East this May.

Bellucci is also a new face of the Italian fashion house’s beauty collection, joining other Dolce & Gabbana Make Up actress front women Scarlett Johansson and Felicity Jones.

Chanel’s ‘My New Friend Boy’ by Karl Lagerfeld

Chanel has released a mini silent film “My New Friend Boy” featuring Alice Dellal, promoting the new Chanel Boy handbag collection, directed by Karl Lagerfeld.

Continuing the buzz surrounding silent movie The Artist the only sound accompanying Dellal’s quest for her Boy bag is the dramatic sound of a piano.

As expected, the British model/rocker has brought her rockier edge to the campaign too, as she sports dreadlocks and her trademark ripped tights and leather.

This follows from the more traditional front women Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has selected for campaigns in the past, with all-American actress Blake Lively fronting the Mademoiselle handbag campaign last year.

Ralph Lauren does ‘Downton Abbey’ at New York fashion week

As runways go, the one at Ralph Lauren’s fall-winter show on Thursday, the final day of New York fashion week, was a true stunner.

A well-worn but beautifully laid parquet floor, illuminated by chandeliers, ran the length of the Skylight Studio in the Soho district where Lauren sent out 57 outfits that brought the British period drama “Downton Abbey” to mind.

Into this whimsical English country house by the Hudson River appeared Fair Isle sweaters in green or taupe cashmere, brown ocelet-print shearling coats and dark brown plaid jodhpurs.

Double-breasted tweed wrap coats were enlivened with scarlet or purple gloves — or with a peacock feather tucked insouciantly into the lapel.

Silk top hats lent an air of foggy London town in the era of Sherlock Holmes when matched with tartan wool coats, black pumps or boots, and a debonair walking stick.

For more formal occasions, Lauren stuck with the classic lines that have made him a go-to designer for women across the United States, with a range of strapless and halterneck evening dresses in black, fuchsia and gold lamé.

It might be easy to dismiss Lauren’s vision as predictable, but the silver-haired 72-year-old son of an immigrant housepainter from Belarus had every reason to smile as he walked down that fine runway himself in a light grey suit and tie to acknowledge a standing ovation at the end of the show.
Two days ago, the publicly listed company that bears his name, and which includes the mass market Polo brand, forecast a better-than-expected 20 percent leap in sales this year in light of a third-quarter profit of $169 million — proof positive of Lauren’s staying power in the aristocracy of fashion.

Rihanna’s 24-karat gold Amor 24 polish

Fans of Rihanna‘s flashy Grammy Awards nails will have the opportunity to get their hands on a limited edition bottle of the 24-karat gold ‘Amor 24′ polish she wore to the February 12 ceremony.

During the recent awards ceremony the singer’s hands earned as much attention as the plunging Emporio Armani dress she co-designed thanks to the varnish, which retails at $5,000.

At-home gel manicure company Red Carpet Manicure created the product. A few limited edition bottles of the actual varnish will go to charity auction before a more affordable version of “Amor 24″ hits RedCarpetManicure.com this spring for $9.99.

Rihanna, who customized her gold nails with tiny dollar signs, isn’t the only star to have favored flashy digits of late.

Katie Holmes and Blake Lively have also been seen wearing gold varnish, while Madonna showcased gold and black patterned talons during her 2012 Super Bowl halftime performance earlier this month.

Liv Tyler sings “Need You Tonight” for Givenchy

Givenchy has released the video of actress Liv Tyler singing her own rendition of INXS’s “Need You Tonight” ahead of the launch of new fragrance Very Irrésistible Givenchy Electric Rose.

Tyler smolders in the clip, which features choreography by famous dancer Bianca Li and was filmed by Swedish director Johan Renck.

It was announced back in December that Tyler would be the voice of Givenchy’s latest scent, collaborating with Sony Music Entertainment on “an electrifying meeting between the world of rock and the universe of perfume.”

New York-based musician David Andrew Sitek, who has worked with indie bands including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars and Foals, produced the record.

As well as representing beauty brands including Pantene haircare, Tyler — whose father is Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler — has modeled for Givenchy since 2003.

Very Irrésistible Givenchy Electric Rose is scheduled to hit stores this April.
