CRS-3 : In the “direction rapidly,” is about to get faster.
Cisco on Tuesday announced a successor of the institution – 1 core router platform with the new institution – 3, The company, which provides more than three-fold increase in capacity.
Foundation – 1 provides up to 92 terabits per second of capacity, while the new institution – 3 delivers 322 terabits per second. Prompt in announcing the new core, described by Cisco (NASDAQ: [CSCO]) executives in the organization – 3 as a basis for the next phase of growth of Internet traffic.
“It’s about intelligence throughout the network that will allow you to accomplish what seems simple – any device, content and did so on the scale that has not happened before and said,” Chief Executive John Chambers, Cisco during the webcast discussion of the institution – 3.
Cisco has invested $ 1.6 billion in the development of the family enterprise routers. Chambers pointed out that it took five years to develop the first institution – 1, which appeared for the first time in 2004, and it took three years of development to build outside the institution – 3.
One of the main components of the enterprise – 3 is the new Cisco Quantum Flow processor array, and the recent evolution of the flow of silicon quantum Cisco in 2008 after the disclosure for the investment of $ 100 million in research and development in technology. Chambers noted that Cisco is the key to a comprehensive strategy to further develop their own silicon, as well as hardware and software, to continue to move forward in innovation in the company.
In addition to strengthening the capacity of crude Foundation – 3 promises, and Cisco is also providing new intelligence features.Pankaj Patel, Cisco vice president and general manager of service provider business, explained that the Foundation – 3 includes a technology company is called a network positioning system (NPS). He pointed out that nuclear power sources is similar to the GPS system in the sense that it improves the discovery of content and resources in the network.
Foundation – 3 will also enable cloud-based VPNs, which will deliver on-demand computing, storage and ability to communicate.AT & T network in 100G
Although Cisco is just a formal declaration of the institution – 3 day, they had a router in the pilot tests in this area. Among those that have tested the enterprise – 3 is the AT & T (NYSE: T), which is used the router for 100 Gigabit per second (100G) network field trials.
That mark is the next major advance for the speed of service providers, and a big boost from the current maximum transfer speed of 40G.
Keith Cambron, President and Chief Executive Officer of AT & T Labs, pointed out that the company’s network needs of 100G technology to meet the growing demands of customers. He added that the experience of field experience of using Enterprise – 3 for 100G traffic across the road transport given the real AT & T and more confidence about the status of 100G in the service of production.
Cisco is not the only large router vendor aims for a piece of the market 100G. Rival Juniper Networks announced this week that it had completed a successful test of 100G technology with Verizon. Juniper T1600 core to compete against the institution – 1, and the company recently announced an increase in the bandwidth of the product.
Overall, Cisco’s Chambers sees the institution – 3 as a key to help enable the largest network of courier services and intelligent.
“The basis is the institution – 3), and what it entails, and while today may not be exciting to the average consumer, and let me to you is the basis for the speed and scalability,” said Chambers.
Part of the basis may be more effective ability to deliver high-speed broadband to more people around the world. Google has recently announced a plan to provide Gigabit Ethernet to identify communities in the United States, for example. But Cisco is a broad approach to provide a little different.
“Our strategy is how we can achieve in life – which enter into a partnership with service providers, and we do not compete with them,” said Chambers. “We love that anyone carrying networks, so clearly I like Google – but it requires intelligence in the network to obtain the response times you need. It is also about how to download networks and to encourage people to invest in networks for access to a fair return on that.”
